Congress has termed the central government’s decision to ban the export of wheat as anti-farmer. Former Finance Minister and Congress leader P. Chidambaram said that farmers could have earned good money from exports, but the government does not want this. That is why he has taken this anti-farmer step.
During discussion with reporters on the second day of Chintan Shivir, Chidambaram said that I think the central government could not procure wheat in sufficient quantity. That’s why it has banned exports. The production of wheat has not decreased, but has increased. Had there been procurement, there would have been no need to ban the export of wheat.
Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has also raised questions on the economic policies of the Modi government. He said inflation has reached unacceptable levels. The government is increasing inflation by its wrong policies. Their economic policies are not in the interest of the country.
P Chidambaram held a press conference on the second day of Congress Chintan Shivir. He said that the country’s economy is worrying. The slow rate of growth in the last eight years has been the hallmark of the present government. The financial position of the states is very bad. The time has come for a comprehensive review of the financial relations between the Center and the States. The result of the wrongly implemented GST of the Modi government in 2017 is in front of everyone. People have to bear the brunt of inflation. People’s jobs were snatched away. The rupee has weakened due to inflation and high interest rates. The government is a complete failure. We will keep their failures in front of the public.
We failed to reach the deteriorating economic situation to the public.
Regarding employment, Chidambaram said that in 2019, we had talked about filling the vacant vacancies in the central government. The BJP had also made the same promise, but after 2019, the vacancies in railways and paramilitary increased. It is against the youth and backward sections. If you don’t do government recruitments then where will people go to find jobs. This is an anti-people government. At the same time, he admitted that we have failed to take the deteriorating economic conditions of the country to the people. Now we will put all the issues in front of the public.
The need for a complete change of economic policies
P Chidambaram said that the Congress-led government in 1991 had ushered in a new era of liberalisation. The country had achieved many achievements at that time like wealth creation, new businesses and new entrepreneurs, millions of jobs, exports and lifting 27 crore people out of poverty line. After 30 years, I feel that there is a need to completely change the economic policies keeping in mind the global and domestic development.
The senior Congress leader further said that I am sure that our deliberations in three days and the decisions to be taken by the CWC in the coming days will contribute significantly to the nationwide debate on economic policies.
